Abilities and Scouts

What Are Abilities?

A wallet address’s abilities are everything its owner can do based on:

  • the tokens it holds

  • the allowlists it’s on, and

  • the contracts it has interacted with

Abilities are not open actions available to any wallet address, but rather actions customized to someone’s on-chain identity and history.

Examples

  • Claim airdrops

  • Mint derivatives

  • Access chats

  • Vote on proposals

  • Renew ENS

  • Attend events

  • Unlock shops

  • Delegate votes

  • Revoke access

  • Claim POAPs

Composition

An ability consists of three main components:

  • Content – the title, description, image, type, and dates of an ability

  • Requirements – what is necessary to access this ability: be on an allowlist, hold a token, etc

  • Action – the link to go complete the ability

Abilities can be on-chain – calling functions on contracts – or off-chain – getting access to an Internet or IRL experience.

Relevance

Not all abilities belong on Daylight. Scams, spam, and shill abilities can clog up our feeds, making it harder for users to find really great abilities. However, there are a few other things that make up a good ability – check out the “Verifying Potential Abilities” section of this guide for more details. And, if all else fails, you can always ask about an ability in the #questions channel on the Daylight Discord.

Who Are Scouts?

Every ability on Daylight comes from one of two sources: Suppliers or Scouts.

Suppliers are products that help communities and creators make abilities: token-gated chats/events/shops, allowlisted mints or airdrops, DAO votes, etc. Examples of suppliers: Guild, Snapshot, Shopify, and ZORA Create. Suppliers programmatically submit all the token-gated and allowlisted abilities they help communities and creators make.

But some of the best abilities are one-off, custom experiences that need to be added by the Daylight Scout community. Examples:

These abilities are added to Daylight by Scouts like you!

Daylight is a map for your web3 adventure – it tells you all of your special abilities and lights up the path ahead, much like a guide in a video game. If web3 is a map-based game, Daylight Scouts are the cartographers, exploring the space ahead, coming back with special knowledge to tell everyone else, and earning badges along the way.
